JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

For anyone interested in violent action anime, check out the fantastic recent anime adaptation of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. It's one of Japan's longest running and most popular manga series, and has remained my personal all-time favorite manga series since I first discovered it over 10 years ago.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has sold over 95 million copies in print, making it one of the best-selling manga series in history. It is currently Shueisha's second longest running manga series with 115 tankōbon volumes and counting (only Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo, with over 180, has more). IGN named the series a "must read", declaring the artwork of "a standard virtually unseen in most manga produced today". For the 10th anniversary of the Japan Media Arts Festival in 2006, Japanese fans voted JoJo's Bizarre Adventure second on a list of the Top 10 Manga of all time. The series has spawned a large media franchise in Japan that includes several novelizations and video games, action figures, a jewelry line titled Passione, and even snack foods.
Also in 2009, Hirohiko Araki (JoJo's creator) was one of five artists selected by the Musée du Louvre to create original works set at the famous museum. His piece Rohan at the Louvre starred JoJo's Rohan Kishibe and was shown at the exhibit titled Le Louvre invite la bande dessinée ("The Louvre Invites Comic-Strip Art"), which was created to show the diversity of comics, from January 19 to April 13. The following year, Rohan at the Louvre was published in France and ran in Japan's Ultra Jump. It was released in the US by NBM Publishing in February 2012.
