Some people have stories or reasons for why they have named their characters certain things. For Example, Back when Adam and I were dating Adam was talking to a friend of his about me, and he spelled my name Hakkie instead of Hallie, with short time we have come up with the name Hakkie Sack, so for those who say that my name should be spelled "Hackie Sack", no it shouldn't there is a reason why it is Hakkie and not Hackie.

Mine (I Killing Hand I) is from a song. The Killing Hand part at least, but Killing Hand was already taken so I added I's haha. My brother Nick and I wanted somewhat similar names so I made Killing Hand and he made Starving Hand!

I was sitting down in American History Class My sophomore year and since I already knew all the material they were covering I decided to think About Guild wars and making a new character. I wondered how fun a ranger would be, so I decided I would make a ranger. However I suck at creating names so I thought of the Name "Fink" and decided to throw in Dixel out of wherever.

Dunamis comes from the Greek. It is where we get our word Dynamite. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen, so Faith Dunamis means the explosive power of faith! Since she is a monk I figured this fit her well. Faithy was the first Dunamis in my Dunamis Clan.

My ritualist is Eden Dunamis because most of my chars are Dunamis save for "Kellan Valor" and "Melody Vesper". Eden because it sounded pretty and I like that name in general.

I think I should take a moment to also explain Seren Dunamis. She's my ele, and Seren can mean Star. You already know the Dunamis which fits an ele rather well too I think. Smile

If you want to know about the rest, just let me know. I think these three have the coolest names in my clan, however. Oh, although I should add Trinity Dunamis. I reference the Holy Trinity which is three parts of God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This name then means the explosive power of the Trinity. I thought that was cool for an angelic paragon.

My first character is Falcon Arcana. A character name I've tended to use for roleplaying games before is "Arcane", if I'm making a spellcaster/wizard-type character at least. Since I wanted to play an Elementalist, I wanted to use that for the name. Since you need to pick two names, I came up with Falcon for the first name, just because I thought it sounded cool, and chose to use Arcane as the last name. But it sounded strange as a last name, so I changed it to Arcana because I thought it flowed better when combined with a first name. So overall, I just thought the name sounded cool.

This choice of names set a trend for the rest of my characters, and they all fell into one of two categories. Some of them used Arcana as the last name, and a different bird name as their first name. The others have sort of silly names, starting with a title or rank of some sort, and then some sort of bird reference in the rest of it somewhere. This led to some commonalities between my character names that make my characters easier to identify by other people, as well as served the function of making it easier for me to think up new names.

Here's a list of my characters to show the pattern:

Serious names (all have a bird name, then Arcana):
Falcon Arcana (Elementalist)
Eagle Arcana (Ranger)
Raven Arcana (Mesmer)
Wren Arcana (Ritualist)

Silly names (all begin with a rank/title, and then contain some sort of bird reference):
Cmdr Cookoo Bananas (Warrior)
Cptn Blitz Loonatic (Assassin)
Srgt Squawk Hawkins (Paragon)
Doctor Cluck Ducker (Monk)

humm...

It's gonna be hard for me to explain without sounding like I'm completely full of myself...

Kamisama means Lord God in Japanese.
Shin supposedly also means God in Chinese, although I never actually verified. But even if it doesn't mean God, it still sounds pretty nice with Kamisama.

So yes... Lord God, God...

I use that name because I believe I'm my own God. And since I'm going to get GWAMM soon, it's gonna fit like a glove!
If you want to talk religion and that I shouldn't be offensive toward the god you believe in, please refrain, I'm not a believer, hate religion as a whole and it won't end up pretty.

I chose Alice the Vengeful because Allison wouldn't fit and prolly would sound a little funny. Vengeful Was Khanei caused me to use vengeful.... Alice = More vengeful than Khanei.

My Ele has a name with a story behind it that I think is moderately interesting but probably not as interesting as I think it is. I wanted to make an Ele for testing purposes. To see if I would like the class. I think I had tried the Assassin right before and really didn't like it so I didn't want to commit to the class yet. So I named her Testelle. Test Ele. But I realized that I liked the name. And that's how my Ele came not to be known as "Permelle".

Well... I'll throw in the story behind my character names which more than once have raised questions:

Hielsyra Cu Lyr - My primary character, although I didn't initially intend for it to be; the name is one from the language of a fictional tribe within a fantasy setting of a story I've created that sprung from my days as a DM for a Neverwinter Nights 2 persistent world server. The naming sequence is kind of odd in that their 'first' name is treated as middle name and rarely mentioned, therefore why I refer to Hielsyra as Cu, because in the fiction, so would everyone else and that is how she would introduce herself.

Arceri Brink - Arceri is a Greek surname that I used as a first name and added Brink as a last name for my Ranger back in my Everquest days. This was the replacement name of a horrid name I had before that required me to pay fifty bucks to have SoE change it so I'd stop slapping my forehad everytime I logged in.

Brenil Seropian - This is my four year old character I never play and exists only to collect birthday presents. I used to play him as my primary character before I quit Guild Wars four years ago. This was also the name of my primary Everquest character, a necromancer, for many years. The name is another creation of my own except for the surname which is the last name of a primary developer on Myth: The Fallen Lords, one of the greatest games ever created. I use the name Brenil as my main online handle everywhere but in Guild Wars.

Isymri Vr Hlin - Another character from the fictional tribe that Hielsyra Cu Lyr is from. Her name is the same in that others would refer to her as "Vr", but I do not call her that to other people because most won't know what the hell I'm talking about.

Ridda Vass - This is an actual character I used to use when I was DMing for the above mentioned persistent world server. The name is entirely made-up and the character was an enigmaic witch who was abandoned by her goddess and obtained vengence and worship through vanity and misdirection.

Istvaan Vasilikos - The surname is Greek in origin and was the name of my favorite Emperor of the Roman Empire (Byzantine Empire) in the game Total War: Medieval II, which I also named a town after him. The first name is from the Warhammer 40k fiction, it is the name of a planet (and system) that the dropsite masscare during the Horus Hersey occured: Istvaan IV.

I've used several other names and there's stories behind them as well, but none of those characters exist anymore. The above are the names of all the characters I currently have. Yes, I am aware that those stories from above are quite dorky. I am a nerd after all.

Well Cu, I prefer those "dorky" names as you would say over "Iii I Kill Your Mom Iii" and other idiotic names I see sometimes. I think those are great character names.

So mine is a little mixed up. When I start a new MMO I try to settle on some sort of naming convention for all the alts that I will inevitably roll. When I first played GW several years ago, I eventually settled on physicists. So I have names like:

Ernest Rutherford
Aage Bohr
Hans Bethe
Robert Hooke
Sinitiro Tomonaga
Alfred Kastler

I had created a couple of toons before I had settled on a convention so I have:

Bbq for you
Max Shumei
Kaza Wacheku
Mez Fu
Slash Fu

As well.

A little over two years ago I gave my account to my cousin and stopped playing. About two weeks ago I decided to come back to the game. I wasn't sure that I would be getting my old account back from my cousin so I started a new account. The name that I registered for this forum with is the name that I pretty much universally use for fora, so for the new account I decided to go with the word green in my names. It turns out that green is pretty popular in names so if a name that I want is taken, I substituted verdigris since apparently no one uses that. So I have names like:

Verdigris Monk
Verdigris Knives
Green Mez
Verdigris Arrow
Verdigris Necro
Verdigris Arrow
Green Virtue
Verdigris Scythe

My character names are... not very related to anything.

My first serious character, Bruno Black Ultra (monk), was named that way because I thought about an ugly outdated Swedish name, and thought of Bruno (which actually is a German name originally). This was also funny, because the character I had designed was of a dark skin type, and Bruno almost literally means brown. I then added the Black part, because a brown person could also be called black (I'm not a racist, I'm able to see the humour and irony in everything). But Bruno Black sounded... like a bad super hero or a German porn actor, so I added Ultra to make him sound like an awesome super hero.
On the first day of my character, Johan commented on my choice of character name and said that he "didn't very much like the Ultra family". This made me use Ultra as surname for all my characters.

------------------ Trivia about the English word Ultra -----------------------

Adjective
ultra (comparative more ultra, superlative most ultra)

1. Extreme; far beyond the norm.

Noun
ultra (plural ultras)

1. An extremist.
* 2005, "Foreign ultra killed, three injured in J&K," The Times of India, 29 Dec. (retrieved 21 Apr. 2009):
Five militants were nabbed while four ultras of Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami (HuJI) gave themselves up.

2. (usually capitalised) Code name used by British codebreakers during World War 2 for decrypted information gained from the enemy.

Related terms
* ulterior
* ultimate
* ultra-

Ultra- is a prefix from Latin that means "beyond."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next was Deathrape Ultra, my female elementalist. Ultra for surname and... well.

Then we have my main character, Leif Brune Ultra, my male warrior. This is actually an inside joke. Probably about 4 years ago, me and Johan were sitting in a friends basement, drunk and drinking. I then opened a Leffe Brune, a Belgian brown ale from the brewery Leffe. We started joking about the name, as Leffe is a nickname for Leif, and started calling it Leif Brune instead. We then starting joking about the name Leif Brune, as it sounded like a German porn actor. And so, it was the perfect name for my warrior.

I also have a couple other characters, like Lasse Kongo Ultra (male ritualist), which is the character I was on when I joined Moon. Lasse Kongo is an alcoholic bus driver, who is always angry and talks incomprehensible, from the movie "Torsk pÄ Tallinn" (am. Screwed (not the sexy kind of "screwed", but the "screwed over" one (I love nested parentheses) in Tallinn), made by the Swedish comedy group "KillinggÀnget".

It seems my character names were related to somethig after all...

when creating Alias Mordor, lotr the return of the king was played in the cinema and i liked it, alias means aka here and then the faction i like most in it: mordor.
My second char was a necro, deleted, a few pvp's, all deleted, one remained a slot for a pvp char, the other slots went to pve, much later came my rit cuz i wanted to be able to farm ectos in uw, my warrior, just watched the who's the tank clip from wow of youtube, see for urself Very Happy, just enter "who's the tank wow". then i switched an empty slot for my brothers ranger and finally, my ever-changing pvp.

Nikki, i think he ment Centurion, a roman soldier, the commander of a single cohort(unit) who ordered the soldiers to march, attack, etc. and the arms probably point to the lance, the shortsword and the square shield they had.Smile
